The #WomenInSport Breakfast 2022 Wrap

After three long years of online events and far too many Zoom meetings, the sporting community came together for the first time since 2019 for the Women in Sport breakfast, held at Marvel Stadium.

Supported by Major Sponsor Victoria University, the Women in Sport Breakfast is a milestone event that brings together the sports industry to acknowledge, celebrate and continue the work all stakeholders are doing to advocate, elevate and extend the opportunities and access to sport for women and girls.

The theme for 2022 was “Shaping the Game” and what the future of sport looks like for women and girls. The star-studded panel of Dr. Fiona McLachlan, Kieren Perkins OAM, Sarah Walsh and Sharelle McMahon had a brilliant discussion around their thoughts on what “shaping the game” looks like.

The 600+ strong crowd were captivated by the panel, who shared their experiences of not only playing and watching sport, but how much things have changed over time.

It’s an incredibly exciting time for women in sport at the elite level in Australia, with the FIFA Women’s World Cup (2023), FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships (2022), Victorian Commonwealth Games (2026), Netball World Championships (2027) all on the short term calendar in Australia, leading into the Olympics in 2032.

Since our inception in 2005, Women Sport Australia has supported and worked in collaboration with stakeholders from around Australia and the world to improve opportunities for girls and women in sport and recreation – both on and off the field. Help us create opportunities for women and girls in sport by signing our Gender Equity in Sport pledge.

Thank you to all of our major partners and sponsors for helping make this event the success it was!
