Shona Joy Scholarship providing opportunities for women working in sport

Women Sport Australia (WSA) and Australian owned fashion brand Shona Joy are excited to launch The Shona Joy Scholarship, making career development opportunities more readily available for women working in sport across Australia.

The scholarship includes a fully subsidised WSA Women in Sport Mentoring Program, one-on-one mentoring sessions with a senior leader, a 12 month WSA Membership and access to WSA networking and exclusive events.  There will be one Scholarship available in each State and Territory for the 2021 Mentoring Program.

WSA has a rich history of delivering this mentoring program, which has resulted in hundreds of women who work in sport across Australia participating and working towards advancing their careers.

As part of the Women in Sport Mentoring Program participants attend an online workshop, with other women working in sport, which is focused on leadership and career development. Each participant is then matched with a suitable mentor who provides bespoke career advice.

Applications for The Shona Joy Scholarship open today and close on June 25th at 11:59pm.

Shona Joy support of women’s sport and WSA has enabled us to provide support and education to women working in sport across Australia. Shona Joy has donated $5 from each garment sold from their 2020 dedicated Capsule Collection of athleisure wear and these funds have been used to subsidise the cost of our program and offer eight fully funded Scholarships in 2021.

Shona Joy General Manager, Danielle Millar, is proud to see Shona Joy’s contribution going towards the development of the next generation of female leaders in sport.

“At Shona Joy, we are passionate about supporting real women to achieve great things. We’re proud to be able to deliver The Shona Joy Scholarship and provide development opportunities for women in sport to progress their careers,” said Millar.

Women Sport Australia President, Gen Simmons, knows first hand the impact this scholarship and Shona Joy’s support will have on the women joining the program this year.

“As someone who participated in this program in 2017 I am a huge advocate for it. We are incredibly grateful to Shona Joy for their support and for helping provide opportunities for more women to participate in our program,” said Simmons.

Applications for The Shona Joy Scholarship are now closed. Applications are being reviewed and the outcome will be communicated to applicants in early July.
