Shona Joy helping shape future women leaders in sport

A partnership between Women Sport Australia (WSA) and Australian fashion brand Shona Joy is making career development for women working in sport more available and accessible to ensure there is a strong future generation of female leaders.

For several years WSA has offered a Women in Sport Mentoring Program, which has resulted in hundreds of women participating in face-to-face mentoring workshops in select states across Australia. To ensure mentoring programs in 2021 reach as many participants as possible across Australia, these workshop sessions have been launched today on International Women’s Day as online workshops.

During 2020 proceeds were donated to WSA from Shona Joy’s dedicated capsule collection of athleisure wear which has resulted in the price of the mentoring program being significantly reduced to make it more affordable for participants.

The Shona Joy Scholarship has also been established to offer the mentoring program free of charge to participants who would otherwise be unable to afford the experience.

As part of the Women in Sport Mentoring Program participants attend a three-hour online workshop with other women working in sport which is focused on leadership and career development. Each participant is then matched with a suitable mentor who provides bespoke career advice.

Shona Joy General Manager Danielle Millar is proud to see Shona Joy’s contribution being put to good use by developing the next generation of women leaders in sport.

“At Shona Joy, our team are grounded by a mutual love of designing for real women and to using our voices to support women in our wider community. We’re so proud to be partnering with Women Sport Australia and to support their work in providing development opportunities for women in sport to progress in their careers.” said Millar.

Women Sport Australia President Gen Simmons is also overjoyed by the success of the partnership.

“Sport has been hit hard by COVID and budgets have been tightened across the industry so it is excellent that we have been able to make our mentoring program more affordable thanks to this generous support from Shona Joy. We look forward to delivering the program to as many women in sport as we can,” said Simmons.

The 2021 online mentoring workshops will be held on Thursday 25 March, Friday 14 May, Thursday 22 July and Thursday 9 September.
