National Touring Exhibition launched for #WISPAA Women in Sport Photo Action Awards

Women Sport Australia (WSA) in conjunction with superannuation fund investor ISPT is proud to announce the start of a national touring exhibition of #WISPAA – Women in Sport Photo Action Awards, featuring 30 inspirational images from the #WISPAA winners and finalists.

After a successful season in Melbourne’s CBD, free public #WISPAA Exhibitions will be staged at an initial 13 retail sites in Queensland, NSW, Victoria and Western Australia from September through to the end of November. (Full list of locations and dates follows)

WSA director and #WISPAA creator Louise Evans said that people from Brunswick in Melbourne to Bracken Ridge in Brisbane and from Wagga Wagga in NSW to Lakelands in Western Australia will be able to see a unique exhibition that showcases the strength, skill and athleticism of Australia’s leading sportswomen.

“The #WISPAA Exhibition is going on tour to retail sites where ordinary people will see something extraordinary,” WSA’s Louise Evans said.

“You will be able to get up close and marvel at the intimidating level of power, courage and control captured in these inspirational images by the award-winning #WISPAA photographers.

“The aim of WISPAA is to make action photos of sportswomen the norm and the touring exhibition will allow people to view these stunning images as they go about their normal lives.”

The touring #WISPAA Exhibition to metropolitan and regional centres marks another historic milestone in the evolution of women in sport in Australia.

“For the first time there will be a national touring exhibition devoted solely to action photographs of Australia’s female athletes in flight, performing great feats and fearlessly fighting to succeed,” said WSA’s Louise Evans.

The national #WISPAA tour has been made possible through the support of ISPT – which invests in and develops commercial, retail, warehouse and residential property on behalf of some of Australia’s largest superannuation funds.

ISPT said showcasing female athletes performing at their best resonated strongly with the company.

“We actively champion women in leadership roles throughout our industry and support inclusive and authentic representations of women in all roles,” said Rosemary Condron-Calic, national portfolio manager for ISPT Retail Services.

“The #WISPAA exhibition aligns with ISPT’s work in helping create space and momentum for positive change.”

“The response to the initial Women in Sport Photo Action Awards Exhibition at 50 Lonsdale Street in Melbourne’s CBD was overwhelmingly positive and visitors were highly engaged. We’re excited to be partnering with WSA and taking the exhibition to our shopping centres around Australia.”

#WISPAA was conceived to help change media and public perception and portrayal of women in sport.

As Olympic swimming champion Bronte Campbell said when #WISPAA was launched – female athletes are not fitness models, they are gladiators. #WISPAA is part of WSA’s mission to ensure Australia’s sportswomen are perceived and portrayed as gladiators of their sports.

The national #WISPAA Exhibition is initially going to the following towns.

Queensland: Brisbane CBD and Bracken Ridge.

NSW: Sylvania, Richmond and Wagga Wagga.

Victoria: Frankston, Braybrook, Waurn Ponds, Camberwell, Brunswick and Flemington.

Western Australia: Lakelands and Perth CBD. You can download images of the #WISPAA winners and finalists here.
