GIS launches female-focused scholarship with Women Sport Australia

Global Institute of Sport (GIS) is delighted to launch a new scholarship to enhance leadership and development opportunities for women in Australian sport.

The Inspirational Women in Australian Sport Scholarship has been launched for the 2023-24 academic year in partnership with Women Sport Australia (WSA) – the peak national advocacy body for women in sport.

The two organisations, which have been in partnership since early 2022, have announced a new scholarship for a female student in Australia to complete a Master’s degree with GIS.

This scholarship is for outstanding female GIS applicants committed to improving opportunities for women and girls in Australian sports.

Benefits with receiving this scholarship includes:

  • $3,000 towards your tuition fees
  • Industry experience with WSA
  • Applied research project on a WSA challenge
  • Mentorship with a WSA board member

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be an Australia-based female student holding an offer for a GIS Master’s course, with at least three months’ experience in sport.

Gen Dorhmann, president of Women Sport Australia and CEO of Table Tennis Victoria, said “We’re delighted to provide enhanced pathways into sports leadership for women in Australia alongside our partners Global Institute of Sport.

“Incentivising women to participate in sports Master’s degrees for their own career progression will encourage more to study sports subjects and bring increased diversity to this incredible industry.”

Sharona Friedman, GIS president, added: “The aim of this scholarship is to create an environment that helps to provide better and increased opportunities for women in the sports industry.

“GIS has always championed an increasingly diverse student and staff body. Having the opportunity to make our degree programs more accessible and improve students’ chances of success in the industry is something we’re pleased to be part of.”

To apply, you must have already applied and hold an offer on a GIS course. Return to the Learner Portal and apply for the scholarship online, or start your application to study with GIS today.
