WISPAA 2025 - CAPTURING THE ACTION OF ANOTHER HISTORIC YEAR

Women Sport Australia launch the 2025 Women in Sport Photo Action Awards (WISPAA).

It has been another huge year in sport and to celebrate, Women Sport Australia (WSA), the national advocacy body for women in sport, are delighted to launch the 2025 Women in Sport Photo Action Awards (#WISPAA).

Entering its seventh year, #WISPAA aims to generate greater recognition and respect for the power, strength and athleticism of Australian women actively participating in sport. #WISPAA will be supported by The Female Athlete Project as a media partner, collaborating on the People’s Choice Award 2025 and working with Women Sport Australia to highlight the importance of strong visual and editorial narratives about women in sport.

Women Sport Australia is calling for professional, amateur and female photographers to submit images of women in action in the sporting arena.

ENTRIES ARE NOW OPEN.

The new addition of a female only photographer category encourages budding and professional female photographers to submit their work and join a community of talented individuals bringing a different perspective to the industry.

WSA President Helena Wurf is excited about the variety of photos that she hopes will be entered through WISPAA 2025.

“The past 12 months have seen some amazing sporting moments across Australia with female athletes at the centre. Their strength, power and athleticism should be showcased, critiqued and discussed - WISPAA is the opportunity to do that,” she said.

“This year we have introduced a new category for female photographers - whilst we hope that talented women continue to enter the professional and amateur categories, the new addition also allows another entry point, a welcoming space and network of support and learning to be generated.”

This year’s competition judges will be announced soon.

Last year’s winners saw professional photographer Martin Keep take out the top prize with an image of Matilda Clare Hunt in flight for a header during the FIFA Women’s World Cup against France.

Olivier Rachon’s shot, for the second year in a row, took out first place in the amateur category for his immortalisation of Paralympian Vanessa Low taking part in the long jump event at the Maurie Plant Meet in February 2024.

Up-and-coming photographer Maya Thomson joined elite ranks winning the Emerging category with her inspiring capture of Donnell Wallam during the opening round of the Suncorp Super Netball competition. The Emerging Category recognised photographers under the age of 21.

Over the last six years, #WISPAA has generated hundreds of entries from photographers all across Australia.

#WISPAA 2025 will once again have award categories for both Professional, Amateur and Female Photographers with a cash prize of $850.00 AUD being on offer for each category winner.

Entries are now open via Picter and will close at the end of May 2025.
