Women Sport Australia is devastated to hear of the demise of the Victorian Office for Women in Sport and Recreation (OWSR). The Office has been instrumental in creating opportunities for women and girls to participate in sport.
In their time, they’ve implemented:
- The Fair Access Policy Roadmap, that developed a state-wide foundation for gender equitable access in community sports infrastructure for women and girls.
- Balance the Board, a policy to support increased representation of women on boards across Victoria’s sport and active recreation sector.
- The Women in Sports Media Program, supporting more than 100 women to progress their career in sports media.
- Community Activation Grants Program, celebrating the role of women and girls in community sport and active recreation.
- Professional Development Scholarships Program, which has supported more than 600 opportunities for women working in the Victorian sport and recreation sector.
Women Sport Australia request a meeting with Minister Steve Dimopoulos and Minister Ros Spence as soon as possible to learn more about how the legacy of this first of its kind work will be protected and how gender equity in sport will be ensured across Victoria.
