Play sport, don't pose for sport: WSA heralds the end of F1 grid girls

Women Sport Australia applauds the positive decision by Formula One 1 to axe grid girls.

Women Sport Australia president Carol Fox said it shows strong leadership from a major sport to end an archaic practice that was out of step and out of date.

"WSA encourages other sports to follow suit and to scrap ring girls, walk-on girls and podium girls and to provide women with equal opportunity, equal pay and conditions to participate in and play their sport, not pose for their sport," Fox said.

Women Sport Australia applauds Samantha Kerr being named Young Australian of the Year and calls for more exceptional women in sport to be considered and recognised with Australia Day honours and other major awards.

WSA is pleased and proud leading Matilda player Sam Kerr has been honoured and a number of other remarkable sports women have been conferred with an Australia Day honour. (List follows)

Hannah Macdougall: WSA Mentoring Ambassador

We're thrilled to announce Hannah Macdougall as ambassador for our mentoring program. Hannah is a dual Paralympian, has captained the Australian Swimming Team, completed a double degree in Sport Science and Sport Management with Honours, and is currently studying a Phd. She is also aiming to represent Australia at the 2017 UCI Para Road World Championships. At 29, Hannah has had many mentors along the way, and here shares with us some of the values she sees in mentoring.
